I will snap a picture of this today but last night’s dinner was:
- 3 oz beef burger
- topped with
- 3 tbsp no-salt tomato sauce
- 1 oz fat free mozzarella
- side of 3 cups spinach sauteed in 1 tsp olive oil with garlic
- side of 3 cups steamed broccoli mixed with 1 tsp olive oil, garlic, squeeze of lemon
This was a zone diet friendly 4 block meal. I’m still very much shying away from bread. I don’t mean to be but I’ve made myself somewhat afraid of it. I have added a half a slice here and there but am wondering if I should be having more.
The zone diet allows you basically anything you want to eat if you factor in how carb heavy it is. For instance, a slice of bread would equal the same allowance as two cups of grapes, or 7 cups of steamed broccoli. I may just reserve some bread for post workouts where I’m adding some extra carb.
Also I’m going to start cooking some quinoa to keep on hand. It’s an incredible grain that if you haven’t discovered yet, you should head to your local Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s (or my A&P carries it too) and pick some up. It’s a dense carb but has some good nutritional value.
